Three dead, four missing in Nepal landslide

   Kathmandu (dpa) - Three people, including a child, were killed early Sunday in a landslide in south-east Nepal, local media reported.

   Locals were digging clay from the banks of the Bairahawa River to paint houses for the upcoming festival of Tihar, when the landslide occurred.

   Four people were missing after the incident in Siraha district’s Badhadamal village, according to Avenues Television.

   Police and army teams, with the help of local residents, rescued three people who were seriously injured.

   Police said that hopes of rescuing those buried alive were slim, as several hours had passed since the incident.

Seven die in Nepalese landslide

Kathmandu- At least seven people were killed and more than a dozen injured in mudslides triggered by heavy rainfall in Nepal's western Rolpa district on Saturday, local media reported.

Six houses in Ruinibang, in Rolpa district, were buried by landslides early Saturday, ekantipur news portal wrote.

Police said that 18 people were rescued, adding that they were still searching for others trapped in the landslide. They said some of the buried buildings served as guest houses, meaning non-locals could have been among those trapped.

The landslide was caused by incessant rainfall that the area has been receiving for many days.

The monsoon rains, lasting from June to September in Nepal, kill hundreds and displace thousands every year.

Two killed in Nepal flood, six missing in landslide

  Kathmandu (dpa)- Two people were killed and six were missing in a landslide and flooding triggered by heavy rains in different parts of Nepal, local media reported Tuesday.

   Two girls aged 8 and 6 died after being swept away by a swollen river in the southern district of Makwanpur late Monday, Kantipur news portal said.

   A group of people grinding wheat at a mill were caught in a landslide in the western district of Rukum. One person was rescued but six others were missing, the report said.

Five killed in Nepal landslide following heavy rains

Kathmandu (dpa)- Five people were killed in Nepal's north-eastern district of Solukhumbu in a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall, local media reported Sunday.

Five members of two families were killed in a landslip that occurred in Chaurikharka village in Solukhumbu district in the Everest region late on Saturday, according to the ekantipur news portal.

A three-month-old baby girl was among those killed.

One person was rescued alive by police. The monsoon rains, lasting from June to mid-September trigger landslides and flash floods in Nepal every year, killing hundreds and displacing thousands.

Dutchman killed in Nepal landslide

Kathmandu (dpa) - A Dutch hiker was killed in Nepal in a landslide caused by incessant rainfall, police confirmed Thursday.

Police said the man was killed when he was trekking in the Syabrubesi area in Nepal‘s mountains, Wednesday. He was buried by a landslide.

Kathmandu (dpa) - Seven people were killed Wednesday in landslides across central Nepal triggered by heavy rain, news reports said.

Four members of the same family were killed in the Nuwakot district when a mudslide swept away their home, the Kantipur news portal reported.

Another landslide buried two people inside their home in nearby Kaski district.

A man died in the Khotang district, 250 kilometres to the east, when his shop was buried by another landslide.

Heavy monsoon rains triggered flash floods and landslides across the country, displacing hundreds of people and killing dozens in recent weeks.

On Wednesday, Kathmandu recorded the highest rainfall of the year, according to the Weather Department.

Six killed, 10 missing in Nepal landslides

Kathmandu (dpa) - Six people were killed in landslides in Nepal early Friday, local media reported.

Three members of a family were killed in Rukum district in the mid-western mountains when their house was buried by a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall, according to Avenues television.

Ten members of a separate family went missing overnight when the house they slept in was buried by a mudslide, also in Rukum district. Police told local media that a search was on for the missing, but there was little hope of finding them alive.  

In a separate incident, three members of a family were killed in Nuwakot district in central Nepal, when their house was buried in landslide triggered by incessant rainfall.

Hundreds of people die each year and thousands are displaced in landslides and floods caused by monsoon rains in the Himalayan nation.

Nearly 60 dead in natural disasters in Nepal under two months

Kathmandu (dpa) - At least 58 people have lost their lives in natural disasters in Nepal in less than two months, media reports quoting authorities said Friday.

The news portal Nepalnews.com quoted a report by the National Emergency Operations Centre as saying that lightning, floods and landslides in various parts of the country since May 15 had claimed at least 58 lives and affected more than 370 families.

Six from same family killed in Nepal landslide

Kathmandu (dpa)- Six people from the same family were killed in Nepal's mid-western mountains Monday when their house was swept away by a mudslide, police said.

Three women and three children were among those killed in the landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall in Kaski district.

Another family member was rescued by the Nepalese army.

Incessant rainfall has also inundated hundreds of hectares of rice fields in Mohhatari district, in southern Nepal, as the Ratu River burst it banks due to days of incessant rainfall.

Every year, hundreds of people are killed and thousands displaced due to flooding and landslides caused by monsoon rain in the Himalayan nation.

Nine killed in landslide and flooding in Nepal

Kathmandu (dpa) - At least nine people were killed in different parts of Nepal due to flooding and landslides triggered by torrential rainfall Friday.

Five died in Tanahu district, three in Palpa and one in Butwal.

Half a dozen houses and a school were swept away due to flooding of the Tinau River in Rupandehi district. At least hundred houses are under threat of inundation.

Every year, hundreds die in Nepal in flash floods and mudslide triggered by monsoon rain.

In 2008, flooding of the Koshi killed hundreds and left thousands homeless in Nepal and India.
