Kathmandu (dpa) - Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao has postponed a visit to Nepal next week, Nepalese government officials said on Tuesday, giving no further details.
Officials at the Foreign Ministry said the Chinese embassy in Kathmandu had informed them of the decision. The embassy said the situation was not favourable for a visit.
Nepal beefed up security in the capital ahead of the three-day visit due to start December 20, fearing demonstrations by Tibetan exiles. Nepal is home to 20,000 Tibetan refugees.
Nepalese Minister for Planning Hridayesh Tripathi said the government was working to reschedule the visit.
The first high-level Chinese visit to Nepal in ten years was expected to focus on investment deals.
